A list of bands that play good music. This list is updated frequently, so check back often.
Mute Math. Give it up for this New Orleans foursome. They've been around for a few years, but have really come into their own with their latest albums. You might have heard them in the Transformers Theme Song, but Break the Same has a great feel with good lyrics for a change. 11/22
Jack's Mannequin. A little less teenage dirtbag (er, douchebag) than Weezer, but with better vocals. "Holiday from Real" is yet another California ode. Don't miss their Matt Damon-esque political commentary in "Last Straw." 10/31
The Lampshades. British-sounding melodies meet the U.S. power-pop culture in this Pennsylvania-based foursome. Meet "The Lampshades" in the exclusive Sad Steve interview. 10/12
Norwegian Recycling. Sometimes nothing beats the original. But sometimes the remix kicks its ass.
Check out Norwegian Recycling for some great mash-ups, especially "Hey Oh Tonight" and "How Six Songs Collide." 10/6
Stone Temple Pilots. Rock out with your cock [[halfway]] out. Pure rock feel, but not overdone. Any song on this page will have you jamming. 9/3
Devendra Banhart. Totally insane. Totally hip. Totally enjoying bone-seshes with Natalie Portman. Check out Simran's review of his music. 8/30
Adriana Calcanhoto. Usually Argentina trumps Brazil (see also, World Cup Semifinal, del Potro vs. Belucci, etc.), but I do have a soft spot for this Brazilian vocalista. "Eu Fico Assim Sem Voce" is particularly good. Check out the rest of her stuff here.
Adam Carroll. The ragin' cajun sings about Ol' Milwaukee (yes, the beer) and his Red Bandana Blues. Read Ben's review to get the scoop on this innovative, country singer who's true to his roots.
Dr. Dog. They might be Phillies fans, but their music is still good. Heart It Races, California, and Ain't It Strange are all good. Or, check out the full selection here. Thanks to George for the suggestion.
Julieta Venegas. This pretty lady can do it all; write, sing, and strum. In Spanish, of course. "Mirame bien" is hott.
Zwan. Mellow, upbeat, raw, and sooting. Interestingly, not mainstream. Check out "The Number of a Beast" and "Of a Broken Heart" or scope out the entire collection. Thanks to Brandon for this recommendation.
Jacob Waters. Funk, harmonica, and a great god damn smile make Jacob Waters' music angelic. Here's the exclusive Sad Steve interview.
An essay by Joseph Huttner on the problems associated with Apple's growing control of the music industry.
Miles. Four Jersey boys in it for the love of music. Check out the exclusive Sad Steve interview with Miles.
